B) Illinois, by-and-large is a safe state with few gun related crimes outside of itвЂ™s population centers of Chicago, Aurora, Rockford, and East St. Illinois was amongst the restrictive regulators of guns, and ChicagoвЂ™s ordinances took those restrictions a step further, but a 2010 US Supreme Court ruling brought both governments more in line with other states. This has been one of the most common talking points amongst conservatives who want to highlight the uselessness of gun regulation. ChicagoвЂ™s on particular are even more rigid, yet there are more people killed in the average Chicago weekend than in this mass shooting incident.

Illinois has some of the strictest gun laws in America. We have no right calling ourselves the greatest nation on earth when we refuse to take meaningful steps to address our most glaring problems. Since then, mass shootings have gone mainstream and weвЂ™ve been gridlocked whenever someone even suggests we should do something to curb the violence by limiting who can own them. Until the 1970вЂ™s when itвЂ™s leadership was taken over by a few radical over-zealous leaders who re-aligned it as a political organization and convinced half the country that even the slightest amount of gun control was unconstitutional and communist. The NRA itself started off as a club which advocated for gun safety and gun control.

Pinpointing what changed in society since becomes the logical next step. These types of things didnвЂ™t happen then. Most families had one where I grew up in the midwest. Plenty of Americans love it, but they will only ever feel truly safe if they pack up and leave it.Д®ven in the 1960s and 70s there were gun clubs in high school (I was in one) and firearms were everywhere. Some like to say, America, love it or leave it. Those who are supposed to be the best among us are the worst, selling out the lives of Americans for political support and acting like they have done no such thing even though everyone knows it.ДЄnyway, this is who we are as a people. Fundamentally and, by all appearances, irretrievably.

Someone who has no business having a gun possibly will have gotten a gun and possibly will show up and take aim at you or those you have a solemn duty to protect but canвЂ™t. Go to the grocery store, parade, church, school, wherever, and you could be shot and killed. If youвЂ™re going to live here, you need to accept getting shot to death in a public place as one of the daily risks of leaving your house. And those who think itвЂ™s simple to replace the politicians who resist meaningful safety laws that donвЂ™t prevent responsible gun ownershipВ donвЂ™t understand how a toxically-flawed two-party system truly works. The people may want it, but the politicians weвЂ™ve elected will not do it. But itвЂ™s never going to be conclusively solved because we lack the political will to do it. The problem is simply beyond our ability to properly diagnose and repair. And yet that worn out phrase has made its way into the teamвЂ™s statement. At this point, itвЂ™s more caricature than cliche. ItвЂ™s whatвЂ™s done at times like this, even if it doesnвЂ™t do anything. The Bears have issued a statement regarding the latest tragedy involving guns and human beings far too troubled and evil to ever own them.
